Bringing Hope to the People of Nicaragua
Pat, Katy, Ben (13), Rachel (12), Rebecca (11) were invited by Bishop Solórzano to come and serve the people of Granada, Nicaragua in 2016. Having fallen in love with the gentle spirit of the Nicaraguan people during their first visit to Nicaragua in 2011, the Morans accepted this invitation and relocated to Granada in August 2016. Political unrest necessitated their return to Texas in April 2018, however the mission continues.
While the Archdiocese of New Orleans covers the basic expenses of the Moran family, Camp Esperanza (Spanish for HOPE), as a recognized 501(c)3 organization provides the opportunity for others to directly support the Morans' work in Nicaragua. While at this time, Camp Esperanza is not a physical place, it is what we strive to be as a family... a family that shares hope and joy with the people of Nicaragua. Funds raised through Camp Esperanza will allow existing organizations such as Christ the Healer to expand their impact in the local area.
With no administrative costs or salaries, Camp Esperanza allows others to partner with the Morans, knowing that 100% of funds received will be used to serve the poor of Nicaragua. As the name suggests, Camp Esperanza works in tangible ways to provide HOPE amidst the struggles faced by so many of our brothers and sisters in Nicaragua. Long-term goals include expanding medical outreach to the most underserved areas and establishing a retreat center to provide a place of spiritual renewal for Nicaraguans.
