With Hurricane Iota making landfall in Nicaragua today, many of you have inquired as to how things are going down there, so we are putting out this quick update.
Two weeks ago Hurricane Eta hit Nicaragua, causing extensive damage to those on the Caribbean coast and filling the rivers throughout the country. Today, Iota came ashore also as a category 4 hurricane and the rainfall totals on already saturated ground have caused extensive flooding throughout the country.
Above, two young children whose family lived on the banks of the River Ochomogo have taken shelter in a church in the community of Pica Pica.
Thanks to your support, we had trucks moving already this morning bringing supplies such as bedding, food and dry clothes to flood victims staying in shelters at churches throughout the Diocese and will continue to respond as the situation develops.
Here are some photos from communities near Rivas and Nandaime, south of Granada.

Thanks again for your concern and prayers for the Nicaraguan people.

P.S. A little bit of good news to finish with... the medical and dental clinics that were closed during the initial COVID outbreaks have been able to reopen with our staff equipped with the necessary personal protective equipment. Both the staff and the patients are grateful!
