Thank you for your prayers and concern. As many have heard, the situation in Nicaragua has deteriorated quickly. We live in a small community outside of Granada, a peaceful area, away from danger. We always felt safe and secure.
However, civil unrest has grown throughout the country, including in the city center of Granada. Lack of a secure food supply due to looting and the risk of not being able to find an open path to the airport, led us to the decision to evacuate for the time being. We were able to catch a flight yesterday (Sunday) and are now back in College Station. At this point, the U.S. government has also ordered the departure of U.S. government family members and authorized the departure of U.S. government personnel.
We are heartbroken. The people of Nicaragua have accepted us, cared for us, and loved us. It was a very difficult to make the decision to leave under these circumstances. It is painful knowing that most of our friends and those we serve down there have no options to leave. However, given the uncertainty of how things may unfold, the safety of our children became the deciding factor. We will continue to monitor the situation to determine when it may be safe to return.
Please pray for peaceful resolution and for all those suffering in Nicaragua.
With love,
Pat, Katy, Ben, Rachel and Rebecca Moran
