We had an uneventful trip from Houston to Managua and were picked up by one of our local "angels", Thelma. For years, the groups that have come with Christ the Healer mission have referred to the local group of ladies as "angels." They truly are, as they make sure you are safe and comfortable and feel welcome in your new surroundings.
On Thursday, we had the opportunity to introduce the children to Bishop Solorzano, the bishop of Granada. We also had the chance to take the children by to see their new school and meet their teachers. That helped them feel comfortable for Tuesday the 16th, the first day of school.
The biggest adjustment thus far has been the heat! While our home is very nice and equipped with air conditioning units in the bedrooms, electricity is a luxury in Nicaragua and thus very expensive. So, one of our first orders of business was to buy some fans for the bedrooms. So, to answer the trivia question....You can fit a family of five, a cab driver, three fully assembled oscillating fans, and a 5 gallon jug of water into a circa 1975 cab, with a little room still to spare!
